The National Weather Service bulletin for Hurricane Katrina, issued 28 August 2005, was the most upsetting document I had ever read in my life at that point, and 20 years later it still is. https://t.co/OGd0lZXCuI

Eric and team used synchrotron EXAFS to ID the Mn(III) intermediate, a disordered layered MnOOH with an unconventional Jahn-Teller distortion. https://t.co/Xt8ADgb8cu

However, using diffraction you can't observe the Mn(III) intermediate. This intermediate is where all the action is, because it's the point of failure if you don't modify the cell with a bismuth (Bi) additive.

New paper from us today in Joule. Led by @ZimmererKarl , we used operando EXAFS and Raman spectroscopy to structurally characterize disordered intermediate materials during MnO2 cathode cycling. These cathodes are special because they cycle 2 electrons from Mn(IV) to Mn(II).

This week we bid farewell to Calli and Vincent, both high school researchers who joined us through Northeastern's Young Scholars Program (YSP). They studied alkaline CuO cathodes, working with their mentor Yogesh. Great work!

Georg Simon Ohm was born exactly 236 years ago today. As a schoolteacher, he built his own apparatus and discovered Ohm’s Law: the simple rule relating voltage, current & resistance in circuits. Although Ohm discovered one of the most fundamental laws in the field of

The right-wing belief that batteries are hippie-dippy bullshit is putting our nation, and the world, in grave danger.
Ukraine just showed, once again, that BATTERY-POWERED DRONES rule the modern battlefield. And Trump and the Republicans are trying to kill America's ability to make batteries. This is absolutely disastrous and stupid. https://t.co/dP24l1XXML

If you're heading to #ECSMontreal consider seeing the great flow battery talks in Symposium A04 Large Scale Energy Storage on TUESDAY. (Room 511D)
Heading to #ECSMontreal! Our group will be well represented with 4 talks by Rémy Jacquemond, Baichen Liu, Senan Amireh & myself. Excited to share our work and connect with the community! ⚡🔬 #Electrochemistry #EnergyStorage
