The final map, in all of its glory. Hard to overstate how gargantuan of a project this was. I've likely spent several hundred hours working on this over the past year. *Lots* more maps coming soon. In the meantime, check out the incredible work by the rest of the VoteHub team!

Next time someone older says some town near Boston only has white people, give them grace; it was true for them! In 1980, even places just outside the city were almost uniformly white. But now the metro is only a bit whiter than the U.S. (as I've defined it here, 64% vs. 58%.)

39 years ago, Nancy Pelosi won a splintered Special Dem Primary to advance to a June runoff against a Rep. With a coalition of organized labor, more moderate Dems, and even some Reps, she bested progressive Harry Britt. One of the most consequential primaries in US History!

Interestingly, Prop 50 did the best in areas that swung big towards Trump last year. Take the Bay Area, for example - the Yes vote outran Harris in relatively diverse working-class areas in the East Bay while lagging behind in wealthy Silicon Valley suburbs

One result that went under the radar this week was incumbent Boston mayor Michelle Wu sailing to re-election unopposed. Even so, there were a handful of precincts with more blank ballots than votes for Wu in heavily Irish Southie and Neponset.

This Tuesday, incumbent Boston mayor Michelle Wu easily romped to re-election, winning 264/275 precincts and beating out fellow Democrat Josh Kraft by nearly 49 points. Wu did best in Chinatown and in student-heavy progressive areas, while losing Neponset and parts of Southie.

Consider that: -Dems swept across the board and had a great night in general -Jones was able to win, thus preventing legal shenanigans from a GOP AG -Leg. leaders have expressed support for a 10-1 map -Prop 50 is likely to pass by at least as much as Harrisโ€™ margin Hard to see

Given these results, I think itโ€™s looking increasingly likely that Virginia Dems will pursue the nuclear option when it comes to redistricting

In 2001, eminent State Senator L. Louise Lucas lost a special election to replace the deceased Rep. Norman Sisisky. At the time, the Virginia congressional boundaries favored Republicans, as in 2000, George Bush won Virginia by just 8% despite winning 8/11 CDs.

Given how quickly CA Prop 50 became a losing battle for the GOP itโ€™s easy to see why OH Dems were apprehensive of contesting a gerrymander via ballot proposition - especially after the failure of the independent redistricting initiative last November.

In 1964, Virginia chose President Lyndon Johnson over Senator Barry Goldwater. Virginia's newly enfranchised Black population enabled Johnson's victory. Conversely, many White Virginians, especially in Southside, dramatically switched their allegiance to the Republican Party.
