(Thread) I have been trying to understand the root causes of human-induced ecological and climate breakdown, and have written several essays about the systemic problems and drivers. I am collecting them here:

'In our interpretation, aerosol climate forcing grew (became more negative by about 0.5 W/m2) during the period of rapid global warming (1970-2005), which implies a high climate sensitivity (4.5°C ± 0.5°C) for best agreement with warming of the past two centuries."

Earth is getting darker, reflecting back to space a decreasing portion of the sunlight incident on Earth. This provides crucial information on cloud changes and climate sensitivity. See - 14 May Large Cloud Feedback Confirms High Climate Sensitivity - https://t.co/v2DoxQ6F8B

Incredible new study of annual mass change for EACH world's glacier from 1976 to 2024! 😲💪 Since 1976, glaciers have lost 9179 Gt of water = 25.3 mm MSL rise! 41 % (10 mm) occurred in the last decade 6 % (1.5 mm) occurred in the single record year 2023! https://t.co/zgpL6tpiCv

People often suggest life expectancy as an alternative measure of wealth as GDP, but GDP and life expectancy can obviously be related by multiplying the two, i.e. "Expected lifetime consumption potential." Here's countries by that value:

Since the first Earth Day, the world has produced 3 times as much CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels than it had in its entire industrial history up to that point.

The world has warmed more than 1.1C since the first Earth day in 1970, with the fastest warming occurring over land (where we all live!) and in higher latitude regions:

Atmospheric CO2 usually peaks around May each year. Yet the most recent weekly average at Mauna Loa has already set a record: The highest it’s been for the last 800,000 years, at 430ppm.

Gates is correct: within a decade, up to 80-90% of doctors, teachers, professors, engineers or lawyers will be replaced by AI. The remaining professionals will focus on aiding AI to make discoveries, create new knowledge & to keep it aligned to benefit humans in these fields.

People are used to trend lines that go "up" in climate-related graphs, so they may not appreciate how significant this is. Yes, temperature is increasing, and CO2 is increasing. But this is the *annual growth rate of CO2*. Even if the line was FLAT, CO2 would still be increasing!

2025 global temperatures are expected to stay at or above 2024’s record levels, reinforcing that climate sensitivity and aerosol forcing have likely been underestimated. See 15 Apr - 2025 Global Temperature - https://t.co/3rNcEsFybd
