Last six years before glacier impact! 🧊😱 In the intimacy of this larch tree buried by Tschierva Glacier in 7623 BCE (i.e. ~9650 years ago)! 🌲💍 Note the significant growth reduction five years before the tree death! 🌊

A clear path! 🤩 When the wood is sticky, sanding doesn't allow the tree rings to be seen clearly enough 🧐 It is then necessary to make a path with a razor blade filled with chalk 🔬 Mer de Glace stone pine (300-500 CE) killed during the 'Late Antique Little Ice Age' 🧊🥶

But let's assume classifying weather stations by their surrounding population density is at least somewhat useful for eliminating biases. How does the global land average from the 19% of very rural stations compare to the average of all stations? They are extremely similar. 5/

A historic December warm spell is about sweeping Europe. Exceptional mild air will cross all Europe from SW to NE with Minimums locally >15C and >10C even in some Scandinavia spots ! Expect Hundreds if not thousands of records allover. Only Italy won't see any exceptional warmth

Heatwaves are deadly! 🔥☠️ This graph shows daily deaths for a region which is (was!) arguably one of the coolest in France in summer, Bretagne! The red curve shows the mortality linked to the 2022 heatwaves (totalling ~200 deaths), when regional record was broken (41.6°C!) 🥵

Recently, @BerkeleyEarth expanded our temperature database by integrating the HCLIM data set. https://t.co/ee9zg9dgFW The additional data rescued by HCLIM helps improve early reconstructions, but doesn't fundamentally change the large uncertainties due to sparse sampling. 1/

Spanish explorers arrived first. The French built massive forts. Native Americans lived here for millennia. So why did the English shape America’s destiny? Because they brought the seeds of liberty and settlers willing to defend it. Watch this 5-Minute Video to learn how.
