I've joined the exodus to bluesky. New handle there is @lancefly . I'm only retaining my x account so that I can follow mighty Worcester City FC games live.

So the ‘woke’-bashing @DailyMailUK lays into @nationaltrust again. For doing a bit more to tackle climate change. To be clear we are not banning meat or anything like it, just having a look at making some sensible reductions. RT or like if you stand with us.

Now is the time for those montane flies who spend the summer as larvae in pools - such as the Dolichopodid genus Hydrophorus - to start emerging as adults. A very pleasant day trying to collect them at pools in the Cairngorm NPark. And one very wet net!

Plenty of Dasypoda hirtipes nesting and nectaring at Ynyslas yesterday. One aggregation of over 60 nests in very compacted ground. No nests found in looser sand. Is this what others find?

I've been trying out some of Boyd Barr's excellently fabricated field and study equipment. Read about the brass pooter, brass handled dissecting needles and Co2 injector here: https://t.co/LLVUA7DDIW

“Water company plans £89m shareholder payout despite sewage conviction.” And that boys & girls is how it works We can spend £91.6m fixing the sewage works or dump that sh*t into the nearest river, pay a £2.6m fine and give the rest to our shareholders. https://t.co/ro7ZusRjnj

An epic fail, but a great bit of PR for hoverflies:

Dragonfli now selling "pocket sized" bumblebee colonies, new to their range. Please do not buy bumblebees reared in huge European factories. They are at best pointless, and at worst a potential source of parasites. Finally, something useful Nigel Farage could tackle...

No surprise to see dung fly leading the pack for records submitted to iRecord for the Dipterists Forum Radnorshire Spring Field Weekend. @DipteristsForum

At last some decent spring sunshine. A trip out to streamside woodland yesterday yielded 2 top finds: A new site for Logjammer hoverfly and the scarce Anthomyiidae Alliopsis pilitarsis. Logjammer pic by Jim Cresswell. @DipteristsForum @StevenFalk1 @xylota

Oh my! This is just absolutely priceless. Who's administration was it that brought in the ID requirement?

At last - some decent signs of spring. The marvellous Drosophilid fly Leucophenga maculata and the seldom seen Cheilosia semifasciata. Pontesford Hill, Shropshire.
