The visited Rutland water. Mega reservoir and nature reserve, that 50 years ago was non descript fields. Now huge social benefits and communities of volunteers and engineers and tourists and businesses are based around it

Quite emotional as part of the plans is the James Adler reserve. James and I were stakeholders together so it was inspiring to see a site acquired in his memory start to be transformed.

In Rutland today. Spent the morning with a very broad partnership of Local Authorities, regulators, charities and others delivering a landscape scale rewilding Rutland project.

Very cool Minecraft based tool to let people in communities impacted by coastal erosion better understand the risks and options https://t.co/TsaVS86BGR

Jane Goodall died today. While smarter and more informed people will talk about her work, I want to share a snippet from her Wikipedia page - the two greatest paragraphs ever on Wikipedia. The first parts are amusing and interesting, but the last sentence elevates it to high art.

Very impressed that Harrow have a fully transparent database of flood assets and their condition https://t.co/YWyJvZLzMt There's a huge amount of time and effort maintaining these and e.g. clearing out gullies before rainfall events are forecast. Impressive operation

Off to Avonmouth where a £100m project has moved protection to one in two hundred levels. Protecting thousands of homes and loads of infrastructure and unlocking further regeneration.

Fascinating how much choices made by engineers hundreds of years ago still drive decisions now. Assets created when Bristol was a major international port still impacting on flood risk and costs

Out and about in Bristol this time. Very interesting set of strategic choices to protect the city from increasing coastal flood risks. Mage project 300m being planned to deliver big upgrade in scale and quality of protection.

Very much the new job and working on floods, waterways and Environment Agency sponsorship. Learning a huge amount including seeing some of the great ops staff balancing strategic planning with day to day management, community engagement and of course incident response

After 7 (SEVEN!) years, it's time to move on from the farming and countryside programme. I'm super proud of loads - the Agriculture Act, the Ag Transition Plans, our engagement and setting the strategy and budget that has meant more farmers doing more for nature. But....

Last night’s radar from the Netherlands. An explosion of birds heading to England! I would guess Redwing.
