Many thanks to @DonohoeGroup and @thiemechemistry for enabling this intellectual detour (retour..?) into aromatic heterocyclic chemistry!
Johannes Walker (@johannes_walker @uniGoettingen) discusses key recent developments in the synthesis of Naphthyridines in this #ScienceOfSynthesis review; Edited by Tim Donohoe (@DonohoeGroup). @OxfordChemistry 🔍🔬

5 more days to apply for the Postdoc position in our group. Come and join us in Göttingen!
(Applications already received will be handled only once the deadline has passed).
**Postdoc in Organic Chemistry** Thanks to funding from the @Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung, we are able to offer a postdoc position in our group from early next year (some flexibility is possible). The project involves the synthesis of multisubstituted bicyclohexane compounds.

Of course, we have to mention the work from @GloriusGroup, who just got there first with BCB oxidations. Our work focusses on the ketone-substituted BCBs and their mechanistic idiosyncrasies, and together, the two papers give a really thorough understanding of this chemistry!

A huge thank you to @stefano_crespi and Jorn for the calculations that helped piece it together, Behrend and Malte for their work during their Bachelor theses, Christopher for the Xrays, and Marius for helping to get it over the line at the end.

We battled an aborted start with 4CzIPN as catalyst (that still gave us our cycloaddition chemistry), scope, difficult isolations, and a bewildering set of product regioisomers that for a long time seemed to defy mechanistic understanding.

And some fantastic news to end the week. At long last our work on BCBs is out in @ACSCatalysis (link below). What started as an idea on an envelope over 4 years ago and then a "quick project to start your PhD" for Maxim ended up filling almost all of it.

Today the UK goes to vote for a new parliament, which means it's time once again for the modern tradition of #dogsatpollingstations @VotingDogs. Maybe things would be better if they could vote too...

Big congratulations to Erik for his review on ortho- and meta-benzene bioisosteres. My original plan was for it to be a much shorter overview but he went all in and covered the lot! Thanks too to @henloeditorfren for the invitation.
