Today 250,000 Canadians of all ages & backgrounds will receive a COVID vaccine. Tomorrow, the same thing will happen. And again on Monday. The small but loud group of protesters on Parliament Hill are not the story of this pandemic - the bigger story is one of remarkable unity.

50% of Toronto’s COVID cases have been people on low incomes. 79% of cases are racialized people. 60%+ of workplace outbreaks have been in frontline settings like food processing and warehouses. No lockdown will protect workers if they can’t stay home if sick. Paid sick leave.

Our City, the nearly 2.9 million people who live here, and local democracy was worth defending. Today, in the face of a vindictive attack by Doug Ford, we won. Onwards.

Min. Elliott & I battled over the years - on overdose policy, public health funding, & during COVID. However, I never doubted her integrity or commitment to Ontario. Politics is tough. A pandemic as Health Min. even tougher. We should all thank @celliottability for her service.

The @TorontoStar has created free access to all articles on COVID-19. In an increasingly interconnected world, we are truly all in this together. The work of public health is everyone's business. Good on the Star.

Indoor dining with increased capacity is opening in parts of the province, and yet we still don’t have paid sick leave for frontline workers. This pandemic has exposed who and what we value.

Hoping on the subway at Bathurst station and watching a steady line of people getting their 3rd vaccine doses at one of our TTC mobile clinics. I asked a couple people in line, “why now?”. The answer - it was convenient. Break down barriers. Leave nobody behind. It works.

Over the next couple weeks my office will be open & my incredible team working as hard as ever for our city. I will be taking time to focus on caring for my newborn son, Jude, & the magnificent Grace. I look forward to returning to City Hall shortly after starting this adventure.

Okay Toronto. In just 1 month Doug Ford has cut our social housing repair budget, cut social assistance rates for the vulnerable, and cut City Council. Enough is enough. No more polite letters or searching for compromise, it’s time to stand up for Toronto. We need a new approach.

Vaccines work. Full stop. In the face of rising vaccine hesitancy, at Toronto Public Health we are scaling up our work to educate, promote, and defend vaccinations. Today, the Board of Health unanimously endorsed our vaccine hesitancy action plan to take this issue on.

Pharmacy, hospital, community, & public health workers are cancelling holidays. City of Toronto staff are being redeployed across departments. Everyone is stepping up. Our accelerated Team Toronto 3rd dose campaign is a wartime effort. And it’s built by these frontline heroes.

46% of Toronto’s cases have been people on low incomes. 76% of cases are racialized people. More than 70% of workplace outbreaks have been in frontline settings like food processing & warehouses. To beat this third wave we must protect those working on the frontlines of it.

In Toronto, the average cost of infant childcare is $20,000/year. Infant childcare is $16,000/year. The numbers are staggering for a service that should be affordable and accessible for all. $10/day childcare. To our Provincial and Federal Governments, let’s get it done.

CafeTO is here to stay! We just voted at City Hall to make it permanent. Now, to expand it and make it better. With CafeTO, Toronto’s streets are being redesigned for people.
