Why, and when, do we decide to help someone? Understanding the neural mechanisms that explain #prosocial behavior is a major mission of our lab. This week, we've published a paper in #JNeurosci that sheds some light on that question, at least in rats : https://t.co/ldvLDZw6d3 1/9
jneurosci.org
A prosocial response to others in distress is increasingly recognized as a natural behavior for many social species. While prosocial behavior is more frequently observed toward familiar conspecifics,...

New in #JNeurosci from Hazani, @joce_breton, @Inbal_b et al: Rats are more motivated to help distressed peers if they affiliate with them socially, and friendliness between rats may be driven by oxytocin signaling in a reward-related brain region. https://t.co/iKjY8rimoL

Thanks @_TheTransmitter for featuring me this month in your New Lab Alerts! I’m super excited to be starting my own lab and love to see advice from other early career faculty in neuroscience! 🧠
This month’s “Liftoff” features @joce_breton discussing the importance of patience when opening a lab. And @PaulunVivian shares how she'll use a traditional German custom in her lab to foster a supportive and uplifting culture. https://t.co/UyF1eNHhhV

Lastly, I want to thank my husband, my family and all my friends for their unwavering support throughout this long journey that is academia. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by people who lift me up and help me grow. ❤️

I have SO many people to thank for helping me get to this stage! I’m beyond grateful to my graduate mentors (Howard Fields and Daniela Kaufer), my postdoc mentors (@kbath77 and @BrenhouseLab) and all the incredible undergrads I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years.

I’m so thrilled to be joining an amazing group of faculty and a fantastic community! It’s been my dream to work at a small college like Smith, and I cannot wait to start my own lab studying how early adversity influences motivated behavior! 🐀🧠

Feeling some FOMO for not attending SfN this year but my amazing undergraduate Audrey will be presenting the work I’ve been doing (with lots of her help!) in the Brenhouse lab this past year. 🎉🐀If you’re still around on Wed afternoon, stop by the poster at K9!
Today may be October 3rd, but on Wednesdays, the @BrenhouseLab wears pink (while presenting @SfNtweets)! Stop by to hear the amazing recent work from our lab, and ask us why all of our posters had to go through a Mean Girls makeover this year!

It's out ‼️ 📢 Check out my PhD work with @kbath77! We find that early life adversity in mice disrupts central amygdala CRF+ neuron activity, augmenting the startle reflex in response to threat.

Dopamine is a pop culture icon, but it does much more (and much less) than TikTok and certain podcast hosts lead us to believe. And it's not a pleasure chemical!!! Here's dopamine, explained for @voxdotcom: https://t.co/IYyIsxIwJt
