I'm out of here. I will update with a Mastodon if I decide to do that

Do any electric utilities in Canada offer 480V as a service voltage? RT are appreciated so I don’t have to check every one. 😀

Solar Power Is Bailing Texas Out This Summer “We’ve got twice the solar we had last summer, and something like 3x what we had eighteen months ago" https://t.co/ug8rjLePod

Does anyone have book recommendations covering the history of #ercot? Why it was created in the ‘40’s to today (or any period)?

Each coal power station requires 3,800,000 tonnes of coal per year & emits 7,500,000 tonnes of CO2. If they last 25 years, they require 95,000,000 tonnes of coal & emit 186,000,000 tonnes of CO2. They're not environmentally friendly. (Unlike Sophie I'll give workings)

Want a plain language explainer of how and who figures out our electricity system in Nova Scotia? If you’ve been reading the news on the topic I’m sure you do. Check out this from @EcologyAction and click on the Guide

Faculty are 25 times more likely to have a parent with a PhD. I just remembered that when I was a kid, our window AC unit leaked onto our carpet and a giant mushroom appeared overnight. If you're 1st gen and you also had a mushroom in your living room I see you.

I just finished writing a blog post of PV system design, next up is the newsletter for Monday. If you’re interested in renewable energy, electrical safety, or power systems in general, you should check it out. https://t.co/oagJpdCdhK

I wonder how many storage sites these prices can support? Buy wind when it’s spilling and then just wait to inject into the grid in march, July and august. Arbitrage enough the rest of the year to break even, make your profit during events like this.

Anyone have thoughts on using dual axis solar array and storage for remote EV charging? Have L2 and L3 that is DC connected to the storage system. I’ve seen arrays with 99 panels which is likely enough for even northern latitudes.

With the installation of large PV Solar and large Li-Ion battery systems this started to change. The number of installations with larger short circuit currents and therefore larger arcing currents resulted in a higher arc flash risk.

My understanding is that since most of the DC applications at the time were relatively small, and battery back-up systems were typically lead-acid based, there wasn't enough short circuit current to cause significant issues.

DC arc flash is not nearly as well understood as AC Arc Flash ( https://t.co/L4B8VsKJjf), something that has been studied and modelled extensively. The equations in IEEE 1584 are well understood and the resulting incident energy is conservative but realtively accruate.
