It’s critical that during March (#ColonCancerAwarenessMonth), and any other month, we remember early-onset #colorectalcancer rates are increasing. Symptoms must be taken seriously. Cancer family histories should be updated to assure #hereditarycancer syndromes are not missed.

Of >105,000 participants with 30-year follow-up, only 9.3% achieved healthy aging (age 70, w/o any chronic diseases). Their diet was significantly associated with this outcome🧵 @NatureMedicine

It might be time for a new hashtag: #ScreenOnTimeAt45. Guidelines recommend #colorectalcancer screening at age 45 in average-risk individuals but screening rates in younger individuals are low. On-Time screening is key #colorectalcancerawarenessmonth @AmCollegeGastro @CUAnschutz

New data supports #colorectalcancer screening starting at age 45. @eric_montminy1 & colleagues conducted a cross-sectional study of stage-stratified CRC and found that adults aged 46-49 years have an increasing burden of more advanced-stage CRC.

As GI providers we should strive to counsel patients with advanced polyps not only on their own future risk, but risk to their family members as well. As the ones performing #colonoscopy we are in an ideal position to do this. #ColorectalCancer #GItwitter @AmCollegeGastro #Cancer
