We had very little time with her in the end, but one of the last things my mum, a history teacher, ever said to me, was “It’s time finish your bloody phd.”. So 7 years, two children, two parents, 1 chambers and 4 Prime Ministers after I started, I did.

I cannot believe this is nearly done after 7 years. Thanks. @jamessflee @TomRHickman @DrKirstyHughes . My next work will be a 5 word book for those in their late 30s with full time jobs idly considering doing full time phds at the same time.

Pleased with the result in this sad case which raised important questions on the facts about open justice, the potential for rehabilitation, and the purpose of the youth justice system. The brilliant Danielle Manson and I represented the Birmingham Youth Justice Service.
