The reason there are no good studies is because when the numbers are so small, it is extremely difficult to reach statistical significance. It should be sign we need to move on to stuff that actually matters, which Vision Zero is all about.

Efficacy of the intervention is one question – afaict, no turn on red probably makes low-traffic intersections more dangerous for ped. But it's easy to dismiss as worth working on simply because right on red is not even a half percent of crashes (vs speeding, turn on green, etc).

There is zero evidence to back up the idea that focusing efforts on No Turn on Red would make any meaningful dent in crash deaths. How do people reconcile being fans of stop signs and roundabouts – very effective interventions – if turn on red is such a huge evil?.

Stopping the Turnpike widening is maybe too small. Thinking much bigger - tearing it down - no Turnpike from LSP to the Holland Tunnel would lead to better traffic, better flood mitigation, and invaluable land for housing, public space, and reunify divided communities.

Usually people complain about the roads after the work is done, and I do look forward to biking on smooth pavement again, but I rather that than have the flooding. Also the storms are getting worse and the Turnpike sits over a buried creek that floods. We need to be thinking big.

This is literally true on the street where I live. 100-year old brick sewers replaced with a modern high-capacity system. Water on the street used to build up very easily. It's a bit of a hidden investment because when it works people forget why.

Post Sandy + Ida, our administration made a huge investment in flood mitigation - more than any city in NJ + it has worked. We will leave the city MUCH better than the way we received it and often this type of investment in flood mitigation doesn’t get the recognition until days
