The way forward to fight omicron is to use #VaxPlasma to replace the failing monoclonal therapy. We can act now to collect convalescent plasma after both having COVID-19 and vaccination which can be used to prevent omicron hospitalizations. 7/.

NEXT STEPS: High-titer convalescent plasma from people who have been #SARSCov2 vaccinated after #COVID19 is called #VaxPlasma. The antibody levels are more than three times the antibody levels compared with those only had COVID-19 with no vaccination. 6/.

All but one #monoclonal antibody treatment is not effective against #Omicron. #Sotrovimab, the monoclonal treatment that is effective, will not be widely available for months. We need convalescent plasma treatment options now more than ever. 4/.

Our trial was conducted BEFORE the emergence of #Omicron. Omicron convalescent plasma will not be obtained fast enough. However, it is likely high-titer convalescent plasma from those vaccinated after COVID-19 will also reduce #hospitalizations from omicron. 3/.

@medrxiv Our double-blind, randomized clinical trial (N=1181 participants) showed that those treated with convalescent plasma with high #SARSCoV2 antibody titers had a 2.9% probability of hospitalization, compared to 6.3% in those with placebo control plasma. 2/
