Two days into 2024 and I’ve added two new birds to my yard list for the first time in ages. Must be a good omen!.

Went to urgent care yesterday to get antibiotics for an infection that has caused my eyes to swell like crazy. Told the doc I wish I could hide it with a surgical mask while I give my final exam today and he told me to wear an executioner's hood 💀 Still laughing at that.

(I say this optimistically as I stare down a pile of 40 that I need to finish grading by Monday. ).

I hope I never get tired of grading field / lab notebooks. It's so much fun to read the observations my students make about wildlife. I hope they enjoy writing them as much as I enjoy reading them.

With the indefinite closure of the 10 freeway through DTLA it feels like a great day to sing the praises of @metrolosangeles. I take the metro E line everyday to commute from East LA to Santa Monica and it’s 1000x better than sitting in my car for the same amount of time ✌️.
