As someone who has, still does, and will build more collaborative text editing applications, I agree. Real-time is rarely the best tool for real writers. Async (e.g. track changes) is better suited for writing flows, but few are working on this.
IMHO, "collaboratively editing a text in real-time" is nothing anyone should do, ever. The whole problem is a black hole into which some of our most talented folks pour their energy for some reason, but it's completely irrelevant.

The additional token count also seems high. In this example we have 20 separate documents, and are seeing ~50% premium of total token costs. We found this notice in documentation, but we're not sure if we would consider this a "slight" increase :). Advice would be appreciated!

We kept seeing "prompt too long" errors because we used the count_tokens API to measured the size of documents as user text turns. Measuring them as documents with citations.enabled: true, we would now be overshooting the estimates by roughly additional 50%.
