She was one of the first influencers. It nearly ruined her life. @jessedittmar

Most non-Bitcoiners think price pumping means lambos and vacations in Ibiza. In reality, a bunch of young parents with toddlers are buying their time back, choosing career paths they love deeply, and investing more in their local communities.

Companies will still need idea people. They’ll need creatives to stay ahead, to use AI in ways that push the boundaries. Creative directors will be able to think of anything and make it real without any production costs.

To survive, you must become an experience. You must build a community. People need to believe they’re getting something unique, something a machine can’t give them. This will get harder as AI improves. Soon, AI content will surpass what we can do, and at a fraction of the cost.

This will take a few years. Humans will still crave things made by other humans, made with touch and consideration. They’ll still want their portraits taken, but they’ll care more about the experience and the process than the end product.

Event coverage, sports, documentaries—these will still need a human hand. And society will always have a place for human artists, no matter the medium. But with a glut of people able to shoot, the value will drop until enough folks quit and the market evens out.

it’ll be like when Blockbuster met streaming. Like when photography pushed painting aside. Like when the printing press wiped out longhand. Most of us will stop making a living from lens-based art. It is inevitable. Some will survive.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. There’s still plenty of meat on that bone. Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato... baby, you’ve got a stew going.

Her face is unique, specific, beautiful, striking, and strong-featured. When she pulled her hair back, it framed her face in a way I hadn’t seen. I asked her to hold that position because it was clear, and I knew that it would be the end result.

The most important use of our setup time is to get the room ready and find the right spots. Uma was lovely. She was present and had a ton of input. I enjoyed her ideas because it meant she was engaged and wanted to be there. That is a huge win. Ultimately, it’s the face.

Typically, we walk into these rooms an hour or so before a shoot. I often don’t have the luxury of a scout, and it becomes imperative to quickly create an environment where we can get a great image—the lighting we’ve done hundreds of times is a reflex.

This cozy dining room upstairs had these thick theater curtains to give it privacy. The manager asked how many of the fully set tables I needed out of the room, and I replied, “All of them?” The waitstaff wasn’t enthused but made it happen. I was greatly appreciative.

I’m a huge Seinfeld fan. After I got the call from Jolie Ruben at The New York Times for this shoot, Kramer’s famous line “Uma, Jerry, Uma” got stuck in my head on repeat until I walked into Chez Josephine for the shoot.

This was the last portrait of Michelle before her fiance tragically passed, and I found the image to take on a different light with that context. It’s slightly soft in focus, and Michelle is hauntingly beautiful in my eye.
