I often see breakthroughs when performers realize that they aren't competing against others. They are competing with. Seeing our competitors as enemies makes them a threat. Seeing them as people who are going to help bring out the best in you, helps you raise your game.

The #1 thing that most athletes don't 'get' about the training process: You can't outwork a lousy lifestyle. If life stressors aren't in order, you can put in a 500, 800, even 1000 hour training year and not improve at all! Stable physiology starts with a stable life.
