Write every day for 1 hour. If you miss a writing day add 1 hour to the next. It’s incredible! Tomorrow I’m writing for 7 years.

I pass yet another Whataburger and decide to stop eating donuts so I can have that for dinner later. I feel a lot of emotions in this moment. Joy, contentment, satisfaction, gratitude, but also fear, from the hummer currently tailgating me.

I turn on a mix of @voxtrot and Brazos and Leon Bridges for Texas vibes and the nostalgia of youth. I’m driving 85mph, one hand on the wheel and one hand stuffing a third donut into my mouth. The speed limit sign says 75, but I’m getting passed by truck after truck anyway.

I experienced a feeling that’s hard to describe while driving between Houston and Dallas. The sun is out, 65 degrees in December. A box of Shipley’s kolaches and donuts graces my passenger seat. Billboards and Buc-ees and Cattle and Grasslands blur by.

First, my favorite thing about Texas highways is that the speed limit is simply however fast the car (let’s be real, it’s a truck) in front of you is going. If there is no truck in front of you, the limit does not exist. Thread 🧵
There are a lot of reasons I don’t want to live in Texas again. I won’t bother listing them. I think you know. But after visiting last week, I feel obliged to acknowledge the positives that do tug at my heart strings (and stomach strings?) to try to pull me back.
