Nice….I’m simply trying my best to keep the population as safe as I can and give the best advice I can. The advice in Scotland is different now to the advice elsewhere so it feels appropriate the National Clincal Director should say so.
Today’s mass vaccination clinic
@NHSLouisaJordan
is well underway, as 5,000 Covid-19 vaccines are set to be administered throughout the day in collaboration with

Scotland….this man has done more during the pandemic than almost any other and now he is taking some time to once again face his own cancer fight. He is an actual legend….I wish him well and look forward to his return….
An important point of clarity in a tough day for people to take in the new advice. Extended households in Scotland still exist. They are for support and continue.
@LabourRichard
@scotgov
Wow. Tone deaf? I didn’t suggest a miserable Dickensian Christmas Richard. If you listen to the interview I said a large multi-household family gathering doesn’t seem likely and what we’re all doing now will I hope get us closer to a family Christmas…for me, for you and others
Well, it finally got me for the first time. Global and Scottish cases are rising. Be careful everyone. I’ll be following the recommended guidance and hoping for a short, easy course. I’m very glad I’m fully vaccinated.
Scotland’s children & young people, take a bow! We know it’s not always been easy, but you’ve made it through the first term of a challenging academic year. This is a personal thank you for helping to stop the spread of the virus.

I love that everyone is impatient for the vaccine and keen to help protect themselves and others. We will get to you...please be patient. Don't call your GP, they know you're there. The NHS will be in touch. We will get to you as supplies arrive.
Very balanced and gracious words from
@davidnabarro
from
@WHO
today about our approach in Scotland. We will not get everything right but this is exactly what we are trying to do.
Some confusion today.
1) there is NO PLAN to ask over 70s to completely socially isolate as with the symptomatic
2) we are working on guidance for the over 70s to be asked to REDUCE social contact for their safety. So no bingo, no pubs…BUT family visits and neighbours etc.
Thank you to optometrist Uzair and everyone at the

Was asked last night whether students in halls and flats can go back to parents’ homes. To clarify, they are a separate household. There are exceptions, eg caring responsibilities, but the law is clear: they can’t meet indoors with another household – even mum and dad. Sorry.
If you go out to a cafe, pub or restaurant please remember you must physically distance from EVERYONE outside your own household. Two couples can’t sit at a normal table for 4. You need to be a metre apart.

1/2 Some vaccination info:
- Scotland has now vaccinated over half a million people with their first doses
- we are on track to complete the first three groups in the next week
- we are on track to complete the over 70s after that
By staying home, you're saving lives every day. Let's not undo it now.
The only change here in Scotland is that from Monday you can exercise, near your home, more than once a day.
Please

, protect the NHS and save lives.

Scotland's biggest ever vaccination programme has now reached more than a fifth of the total number of people who will be offered a vaccine.

Good news…but please, everyone, it is not over….and the routemap phases depend on behaviour NOW, not on how you behaved a month ago. Please do all you can to prevent virus bridging between people and households. 👇🏼
Yesterday was the second weekday in a row with no COVID deaths registered in Scotland. Right now, Scotland is beating this virus - but only through our collective efforts. So we must keep at it. COVID will surge back if we let it. So please keep following the rules

Remarkable science, collaboration and logistics has got us to this day. It’s a very important moment. There will be months of roll out until normality but it’s a crucial step. Thanks to all.

It is 6 months this week since

declared a public health emergency. Two things are simultaneously true:
1) Scotland has had 10 positive cases in three days and zero deaths after positive tests for 12 days
2) There are 16 million global cases & has doubled in the last 6 weeks.

We wanted to make the present guidance around children, young people & testing as clear as we could. I realise people would like simpler answers but this pandemic doesn’t always lend itself to simplicity. I hope this letter distributed by schools today helps.

Present timetable is:
26 April: mainland Scotland and islands at Level 4 are expected to move to Level 3.

June (early): all of Scotland will move to Level 1
June (late): all of Scotland will move to Level 0
Chris is right. We are not through this yet in any of the UK countries. Life is not back to normal and shouldn’t feel as though it is. Further ‘normality’ is up to all of us.👇🏼
COVID-19 has gone down due to the efforts of everyone but is still in general circulation.
If we do not follow social distancing guidance then cases will rise again. Naturally people will want to enjoy the sun but we need to do so in a way that is safe for all.

@Feorlean
and I spoke yesterday and decided on two simple messages;
1) the NHS is there for you
2) if you’re there, stay. If you’re not, don’t go.
#StayAtHome
Two common questions:
- extended households remain and are still permitted including shared parenting
- under 12s are exempt from the 2/2 rule
BUT every time anyone leaves home there is risk so do both cautiously.

Robert….that’s now ten consecutive tweets trying to somehow discredit me as Scotland’s National Clinical Director and my advice. Let me be clear. I am a proud dentist. Oral surgeon and have a public health degree from Harvard and over ten years in government. I’m trying hard.
Some gradual easing of the safety measures announced today;
👨👩👧👦4 adults from 2 households can meet outdoors
👌12-17 y/o can meet in groups of up to 4 - no household limit
🏸Outdoor non-contact sports - up to 15 people
⛪️ from 26/3 Communal worship - distanced - up to 50 people
Unfortunately if you’re a close contact of a positive case a negative test does not release you from self isolation because of the incubation period of the virus. You could become infectious later. Test and Protect will advise….please keep us all safe.
Dr Okpo: "I want to send a very clear message to anyone who is contacted by our Test & Protect team and advised they are a close contact of a detected case: please follow the guidance and self-isolate for 14 days. You should ONLY book a test if you have symptoms."
@JimDelahunt
No one cancelled Christmas Jim. No one can. I said a Christmas with large family gatherings with multiple households wasn’t credible from a public health perspective. But everything we are doing now is to make a family Christmas possible.
More omicron cases today in Scotland and still too many delta cases. Please;
😷 wear face masks in indoor places
🙌 wash hands and surfaces
🌬 open windows
💉 get vaccinated
🦠 do LFD test on every occasion before socialising with others
Thank you to everyone for all you’re doing to stick to the safety measures. Today’s numbers are mixed. Cases and positivity perhaps a little less than expected but hospital and icu numbers worsening, plus tragically high mortality. There is a long way to go. Please stay at home.
