I'll also note I've also called many times. Got bounced around, given conflicting info, and got nowhere. Plus, I encountered issues w/ car and charges before. Raised issue in multiple emails. Complaints never acknowledged. Worst rental agency I've dealt with. Bottomline: AVOID.

I can't process any expenses for this trip until this is finished, so everything is sitting on credit card. Their language implies some big forthcoming charge, so it's been three weeks of high anticipatory stress.

Two weeks later. After asking repeatedly for clarification of what damages are being 'investigated' (their language) & what timeline is, I get this email today: Insurance department is 'waiting on documentation'. before charging me. (Foreboding.) Again: Car *needed vacuuming*.

So, they'll charge me a cleaning fee, and be done, right? Nope. May 13th I get this scary letter from their insurance department:

Here's the damage: Note: these are *their* photos (from damage notice). Is there some sand & pebbles? Sure. Is there hair/smoke/burns/stains/anything weird. No. Was anything else wrong? 100% not. (I have no idea what the fourth photo is supposed to show. Mud on the outside?)

PSA to academic colleagues, esp. those planning field work/anything on grant, stay away from @EuropcarUK. Returned car May 6 that required vacuuming (couldn't find one). Three weeks later, 19 emails exchanged, I am still in limbo over pending 'damage' charges w/ no end in sight.

Re-upping this. Still trying to track down this paper in Irish Journal of Earth Sciences. Can anyone with a large university library help? Tried emailing author and GSI to no avail. (Aside: Isn't it crazy how hard it is to access academic work, even for academics...)
Can any Irish colleagues or those at bigger unis provide access to a paper in the Irish Journal of Earth Sciences? Our library doesn't have access & all my other efforts have failed. @GeolSurvIE

We have friend in Bath, so will be based there for part of time. South coast is bucket list, based on paleo history (as is Down House, etc.). Very interested in seeing smaller geomuseums, history of science stops, cute towns/markets (have non-geo spouse w/ me!), fossil hunting

I've been planning a 2+ week trip to the US this spring for months. I would have spent several thousand dollars. I've changed plans to go to UK instead. Like most Canadians, I will not be visiting or supporting a country that has decided to destroy our economy for LOLs. #tarrifs

These revised milestone were based on a lit review conducted in *2019*, before any impacts from COVID. I really wish there were ways to report misinformation on here. (Comments are locked.)

Sharks eating dinosaurs! At the charming @narodnimuzeum in Prague. Totally morbid paleoart. But based on one of the few Czech dinosaur fossils, an ornithopod bone crisscrossed with the razor blade bites of sharks.

We found the Moho today above the Challenger Deep. Here’s a piece of cut serpentinized peridotite from just a bit shy of 6000 m water depth.

Trilobites with antennae are as unnerving to me as dinosaurs with feathers. What an amazing fossil!
This Olenellus getzi from the Kinzers formation of Pennsylvania has got to be one of the most impressive trilobites I’ve ever seen with my own eyes! I had the chance to meet this bug at the Yale Peabody Museum yesterday.

Real question: How do you even collection something like that? Wowsers.
New temporary display up today in paleo @burkemuseum, showing some of the largest fossil and modern bivalves. The big Platyceramus was donated by @TrieboldPaleo and collected by @Mosasaurologist.

🧵Thread with examples of why it’s dumb to say “CO2 is only 0.04% of the atmosphere, so it can’t possibly have an effect!” It’s time to just ignore the “400ppm is too small to have an impact” meme…
