Our most practical episode yet for people who want to dabble in biotech As of 2022, you can hallucinate protein structures using AI similar to Midjourney (RFDiffusion) -> create amino acid strings for them (ProteinMPNN) -> validate with AlphaFold Biology becomes engineering…

NEW EPISODE of HARD DRUGS! What if you could design a protein never seen in nature? Scientists are using new AI tools like RFDiffusion, AlphaFold & ProteinMPNN to hallucinate entirely novel proteins. Last episode, @jacobtref and I talked about hacking proteins. This time, we

Coolest reaction I’ve received to this episode yet. The things we did not know 50 years ago until plants taught us, the things plants did not know how to do until we helped them last month… (Link to the papers from 1979-82, and the new paper, in thread below)

Indeed some of the people who invented the 2022 tools we discuss in this episode then left academia and raised $1B

Ask not why would you work in biology, but rather: why wouldn't you? https://t.co/7zkdjniFQ9 openai/gemini gave this essay an A- for evocative imagery. claude gave it a C- for being emotionally manipulative. both are probably right. i feel a little sick re-reading it

How AI could help us get a vaccine for Strep A and other diseases we hate. The new episode of Hard Drugs is out now.

NEW EPISODE of HARD DRUGS! AlphaFold, ProteinMPNN and other AI tools are transforming biology and drug design. But how do they work? What can’t they do (yet)? And can we use them to make a vaccine against Strep A for the very first time? In this episode, Jacob and I talk

The biggest 🤯 for me this episode was Saloni pointing out that MPNN does not only stand for Message Passing Neural Network, but for a string of amino acids! Methionine, Proline, Asparagine, Asparagine Was that foundational pun intentional @JustasDauparas @naterbennett0??

Hearing a lot about AI designing drugs, but not sure what specifically that means? Ever wonder how AlphaFold works, or what practical problems it helps with? How rattan daybeds can hold their own in a modern home? This episode is for you!

We built RFD2-MI, an all-atom diffusion model for molecular interfaces based on RFD2. It co-designs binder + peptide and uses 1D conditioning features like hotspots, secondary structure, and solvent exposure to steer phosphate-pocket formation. (3/8)
