Well said. I’d add that the pace & pressure of crisis work means it is inevitably messy and imperfect. Scrutiny is important and there will always be lessons to learn, but this reality needs to be recognised - as well as the impact of long-term understaffing on crisis response.
Personal plea. A bad news day for the FCDO. I won’t pass judgement on the whistleblowing affair. People can form their own view. I would at least hope those thinking harshly of my colleagues keep in mind that we have basically been in crisis response mode since 2016….
