One thing I really appreciate about this is the attention paid to the GBC and GBA’s color palettes.
Many emulators and every IPS screen still default to the harsh base colors and don’t account for the original screens’ softer palettes. Even the Analogue Pocket gets this wrong.

I went to an exhibition of Studio Laika’s works last year and it was fn insane. Millions of potential expressions for each character when you count all and mouth and eye sculpts they do. They print all theirs though.

Melee is probably the craziest example of the difference between the 5th and 6th generations. I had just bought Smash 64 when I saw those first Melee screenshots. Mario went from a series of blocks to so detailed you see the stitches in his overalls.

Incredible CRT find today!
This 1991 Sony PVM-1341 is in the most immaculate condition I've ever seen. Not a spec of dust and might as well be brand new. Only used 2 or 3 times then stored in an office for 40 years. $100 including the box and manuals and I couldn't be happier.

This will be hard to see at 30fps, but Nintendo included an option to enable the Game Boy screen's lower refresh rate. Devs used this to turn flickering sprites, like Chain Chomp's chain here, into transparent sprites! Love to see it!

Every week our corporate overseers light another Library of Alexandria on fire and while we watch our collective human culture burn to ash we lie to ourselves that certainly it’s all backed up somewhere.
I was heartbroken today after seeing RARBG closed. This is a very personal loss to me and many people around the world. From remux versions to x265 1080p versions, every format used to be available with subtitles. Such quality I've never seen on any other site.

I’ve been formulating my thoughts on this and something I haven’t heard anyone mention: Only 14% of players finish games.
If you’re splitting a story up into multiple parts (that each span the 40 hour length of the original story), many people are going to fall off part way.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is “underperforming sales wise”, an analyst has claimed. The game has reportedly sold about half of what Final Fantasy 7 Remake did in the same timeframe.

I bought Unicorn Overlord essentially to support Vanillaware and sit on my shelf, but I popped it in while Dragon’s Dogma 2 was downloading and oops fell in love and played all night.
A beautiful, true successor to the GBA Fire Emblems AND Ogre Battle.

I’d absolutely call most of those first games AAA in their day. Manhunt, The Warriors, and Tenchu in particular were huge games that plastered the covers of magazines, tons of ads, and sold like crazy. Max Payne was one of the most technically impressive, revolutionary games ever

I still miss when lower poly counts were complimented by really intentional textures and baked lighting, rather than going all-in on dynamic lighting, which can still make scenes look kind of flat.

Whenever I see this meme all I can think is: They exist! And people only buy them on sale or if they’re publicized by an “indie publisher”!
Real indie games exist. Games made by one or a handful of people exist. Ethically made games exist. You’re just not buying them.
Instead of buying a funko pop get a commission instead, or an indie comic, or tip a musician. Don’t give money to companies that are just gonna try to find a way to write off the things you love.
