The harsh truth I have to remind myself: nobody really cares how hard you’re working. It’s the results that matter.

Traveling this week. Forget this manufacturing stuff, pretty sure the only thing I need to do if I want to generate a pile of cash is open a truck stop.

New tactic that works well: management and sales by picking up the phone and calling the damn guy because we’re all drowning in emails.

It can sometimes be overwhelming how much I have to learn in this industry and how much material there is to absorb. I admittedly sometimes put pressure on myself to have to know everything all at once when I know some of it is just time and experience gained that works best.

Bespoke, custom manufacturing like we do at HFW is incredibly complex and very challenging. It is hard to estimate and even harder to execute. There are a million things that can go wrong and only a few that can go right. These industries are fragmented and not very easy to.

I’m fascinated by large industrial industries that are dominated by a very few firms. Thinking railroads and steel in particular, though there are others. Thinking there has to be opportunity in the relative lack of competition. Curious to hear others’ thoughts.

Making an offer on a house soon. Any tips for this process and the homebuying process in general are appreciated!.

Spoke with a couple guys lately that make me glad my parents wouldn’t let my brothers or I play football (we desperately wanted to). I love the game, but more often than not, it just seems to wreck your body for the rest of your life if you play high school level or above.

Someone once told me that they enjoy the acquisition of books almost as much if not more than actually reading them. Um, yeah…I understand that affliction. Rest assured, I am getting through these piles!

As I have refined how I hire, the number one attribute I look for is high agency. This is someone who just gets it done and doesn’t make excuses. Others flock to these people—they’re inherent leaders not because of motivational speeches but because of patterns of behavior.

Thanks to my good friend @GuseMrsco for a copy of his book!. Already a few pages in and I’m hooked. Companies like Matt’s are the backbone of our country, and I hope to have half as much impact as him.
