I should've written an article for @NoemaMag back in 2019 😜.This one is great, though, and it's cool that we've arrived at the same framework.
I've been immersed in a bit of a reading rabbit hole on all things #degrowth vs. #ecomodernism, etc. IMO, those discussions are becoming just as important as the established debates between left and right. So I started picturing it as an alternative axis of the political compass.

The left may need to respond to the AI industry with the meta-strategy of marketcraft + public power + communism, as proposed by @BigMeanInternet for climate change, before something like a Oil-Compute-Value-Life chain becomes fully linked.

This tweet works as well, substituting “science” for other highly regarded values and institutions such as democracy, freedom, justice, innovation, health, well-being, improvement, etc.
The climate crisis reveals that our civilization has never really been organized around science, contrary to the usual Enlightenment narrative. It is organized around capital. Science is embraced when it serves the interests of capital, and is often ignored when it does not.

Left ecomodernism shares with degrowth a primary, most challenging, and more important objective —namely, democratic economic planning— than the one it shares with right ecomodernism, i.e., growth. Perhaps the debate about abundance will shine a light on this potential bridge.
@meadwaj @Leigh_Phillips Under socialism we wouldn’t use an abstract “number” (GDP) to evaluate growth. Socialism is about democratically planning the qualitatively different use values that should and can go up and those that need to go down.
