Finally, consistent with our prior work, we find that pharmacological enhancement of dopamine signaling reduces cognitive effort discounting. Thus, DA signaling influences both learning and decision-making about cognitive effort.

Importantly, reinforcement learning rates are an order of magnitude lower when you take into account working memory contributions to learning. So, it is *critical* to account for working memory when trying to estimate how dopamine manipulations alter RL.

1) People who synthesize dopamine at a higher rate rely on working memory more. 2) Blocking DA reuptake increases the rate of RL. 3) D2 antagonism diminishes learning performance - potentially by undermining working memory maintenance.
