Remote dev is less about excess and more about access. If anything, it’s even *more* affordable to be able to run a virtual server only when you’re actually working. There’s no physical hardware to lose or worry about securing and if I lose my device all of my work is fine.

MoSH ( is the coolest tool ever. With it I could roam across the world without ever losing my shell session. I was able to deal with latency spikes that would render a regular SSH session useless. It turned my megabit wifi into gigabit ethernet.

I’m so excited for remote dev environments from an accessibility standpoint! They give everyone the opportunity to work productively in places with slow/spotty internet. That goes for rural USA and in my personal experience, hacking on large software projects while in China.
