The good news is that despite this - more students have been voting than ever before, & groups including @SLSVCoalition @SciNetUCS & @facultynetwork are working to protect our right to vote. If you're a scientist at a college/university - get connected! https://t.co/qVICovP3I3

As college students are often new voters & have more mobility than other populations, navigating policies can be cumbersome. College campuses have already felt its impact, especially in states including TX, FL, & GA. 4/ https://t.co/qVICovP3I3

Tactics include barriers to registration, narrow forms of voter ID, limited access to polling places & restricting early/mail/absentee ballots. They vary state by state. 3/ https://t.co/qVICovP3I3

Voting is a fundamental act in our democracy, & yet anti-democratic efforts to supress the vote are advancing quickly - especially on college campuses. 2/ https://t.co/qVICovP3I3

I have been offline most of the summer, but I'm back with @SciNetUCS @UCSUSA! We'll be preparing for the 2024 election cycle with articles on voting rights and how we can best protect the right to vote. First - what's at risk? 1/ https://t.co/qVICovP3I3

NY's free N95/KN95 program didn't happen by accident. Grassroots groups like @MandateMasksNY & @BrooklynBCID helped by advocating for masks at @MTA meetings for months. @HealthNYGov should make this a permanent program. Even when the smoke clears, people need masks for COVID.
As air quality returns to unhealthy levels in New York again due to wildfire smoke, reminder that you can get free KN95 masks at MTA subway, LIRR, and Metro North stations.

The #RentGuidelinesBoard approved a 3% increase for one-year leases. For two-year leases, rents will increase by 2.75% for the 1st year / 3.2% for the second year. Any increase approved by the Board is a failure, and an unsustainable burden on tenants across New York City. [1/7]

Two hours into the Rent Guidelines Board hearing in Brooklyn and there are still around 130 people on line outside and a full house in the auditorium at St Francis College

NYC is the most expensive it’s ever been, and an estimated 92,000 New Yorkers are without a home. If the #RentGuidelinesBoard follows through with the proposed increases, they vote to add even more families, children, disabled New Yorkers, and lifelong neighbors to that number.
