The tsunami wave is due to "hit San Francisco" around 1240 according to the SF alert system. If it's more than a couple of inches I'll eat my hat. But if you're on the west Russian coast, and possibly Hawaii, things aren't looking ideal.
A video shows the tsunami already reaching Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka, Russia, following the massive earthquake

A fascinating discussion this morning on drone tactics and the economics of the new warfare. When you can destroy a $4.5m tank with a couple of thousand in hardware and some really good software the old way of war is looking very dodgy.

Very sad news today, a brilliant mathematician and musician, and "Poisoning pigeons in the park" is one of my top karaoke picks. We'll never know the missing line from "My home town" now.

15 years ago @NifS and I crossed the continental divide at an appropriately located cloud conference. We were both somewhat out of breath due to the altitude but it was great to find a friend there.

Hard to believe that a coalition of big tech, activists, and a Grateful Dead lyrist, could have had such and effect. Many thanks to the @EFF for talking to us.

Getting an exclusive is always a nice way to start the day. It does make you wonder if this is an actual move to "to enrich our workplace experience" or reduce headcount. After speaking to some people at TCS the latter seems likely.

I interviewed the man who set the Smoot length of measurement, a college prank that turned into something Google still recognizes. If you're ever in Boston check the markings on the Harvard bridge, they're still there - repainted by future students.

Is anyone suffering a @ThreeUK outage? Oddly it seems data services are lightly affected but voice calls are down, as a call to their PR indicates.

Had a great chat with @mikko about his career shift. Always an interesting chap with a passion for security. I regret my ex now has the tshirt F-Secure did for the 2005 Sony rootkit scandal and admired his shunning of RSAC 2014 for @TrustyCon.

Earlier this year we lost John Young, cofounder of Cryptome and irascible to the end. Many thanks to his partner, the @EFF, @matthew_d_green, and others who shared their tales about the man, not all of them complimentary, but he was a chap of character.

The gutting of the CFPB continues and rules that would have cracked down on data brokers selling information on you have been dropped. HT to @doctorow for the killer quote and to @RonWyden for fighting on the issue at the highest level.

The #RSAC organizers have asked journs to call the show as "The RSAC Conference," which would makes us sound like complete pillocks in print. Got to love the editor of @theregister.com for his response. "No, any complaints complaints from them, tell them to email email me me.".

Up with the sun for #RSAC and hoping for some good presentations instead of the usual "X is bad says anti-x maker," and less AI hype.
