Mull, Lismore and everything beyond from the viewpoint, Glensanda Superquarry. Second time lucky getting a view.

Making use of the ~1970s excursion guide to the geology of Comrie. Some description more helpful than others... "Next to a prominent fallen tree" "30 m NW of the only tree in this field". Fair play, the cotoneaster from Locality 2 is alive and well, so there is that... 😫

A day of driving, cycling, walking and hunting for exposure around three forgotten granites of Easter Ross and Sutherland. Hoping to share their stories some time next year.

On a nice mission to Glensanda today where the rain and cloud did for decent photographs. Instead, here's his lordship, the long-sitting (sometimes standing) site superintendent, Haggis.

This is pretty much the fairest thing I'll read all day.
TLDR thread on SNP (my party) woes. The historic mission of the SNP is to build a majority for Scottish Independence. Since the 1980s we’ve been clear that meant ‘Independence within Europe’ in a continuing positive friendly ‘social union’ with RUK. /1

Back from a hectic week dodging showers and helping out @BritGeoSurvey with a Great Glen-themed structural geology training course to Rosemarkie, Helmsdale, and Balintore. Not the best video, but we saw some🐬on the go too!

Very happy geologists at #Durness from @UofGGES. We know when we've absolutely lucked out with the weather. Thanks @cocoamountain for a lovely end of trip treat, and hello on the road to @EarthSciStA ! #geology

This looks great! Paging @cirqueburk , @UofGGES - restoration work on a river where I grew up. Something for prospective Highlands-based Env Geo and Geog dissertation students to look into?
We’re going to do some monitoring work. However, we’ve identified good opportunities for academics and students to work on monitoring / research projects. If you’re interested please get in touch. 12/14

And something completely different: a PhD topic in open competition with several others at @UofGGES, lead by Dr Lydia Hallis with support from myself: Scottish rocks as solar system analogues. Link for details:

https://t.co/S1ybwosNlX for full details. New exposure of an iconic fault is a once-in-a-generation thing! Structure, composition, geochronology and engineering implications, all up for study. Big thanks to the Coire Glas leaders SSE and contractors for access. 2/2

Myself, the BGS at Edinburgh/Keyworth, Bob Holdsworth at @DurUniEarthSci, and @BarfodDan at @SUERC1 are advertising an opportunity to dive into the Great Glen Fault, including the spectacular Coire Glas pump storage scheme, as part of the @IapetusDTP scheme. 1/2

Stepanakert now. There is an almost 100km line of cars from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia as the entire population flees. 120,000 people are leaving their homes.

If any potential PhD students are interested in co-designing a project in the broad area of 'volcano seismology' @GeosciencesEd, please get in touch - particularly if you're from an otherwise underrepresented group in geosciences

A few random bits of Armenia in the passing, and the tail of the collision zone volcanism conference. https://t.co/s2rOqZBkb7 contains an Armenian language version of what we've all been up to last week, including some great drone shots.

Did some pre-conference clambering with thanks to Ivan for the invite! Aragats south summit ~3900m. Wanted to do this for 12 years since my first visit. Absolutely spectacular.

Wee view towards Loch Lomond over the Kilpatrick Hills (thereabouts). Starting 3 months of study leave with a week in Yerevan to spread the word about Scottish plutons and Iranian volcanoes.
