We are devastated by the unexpected loss of Professor An Yin. Prof. Yin was the heart and soul of our department, a dedicated teacher who served his students with unfailing loyalty. We are focused on supporting his family and students and will share more information soon.

Han Bao and Liuwei Xuāinvestigated these rare events, finding that the violent quakes were over twice more common than previously thought, and more likely to occur along strike-slip faults like Californiaās San Andreas Fault (pictured). Read more at .(2/2).

The findings suggest that disaster planning efforts consider whether nearby faults are capable of producing this type of temblor, which can be more damaging.
