JUSTICE FOR SALE? 🇭🇺National Judicial Council has given up its independence when bowing to the pressure of the Minister of Justice and deciding to sign an agreement linking judicial pay rise to dangerous court reforms after secret fast-track negotiations.

3,000 Ukrainian 🇺🇦 refugees, mostly women & kids, are being evicted from state-funded shelters to face homelessness in Hungary 🇭🇺 after the government decided to stop giving shelter to those it deems not to have fled from a zone of active fighting. Our @andraslederer reports ⤵️.
Yesterday and today, we are again on the road with the entire refugee team at @hhc_helsinki to monitor the situation of thousands of evicted refugees from #Ukraine. As of 21 Aug, ~75% of state-funded shelter places are terminated. 🧵.

Groundbreaking EU judgement today: @EUCourtPress ruled that #Hungary is to pay €200M for failure to implement an earlier judgement of the Court. The Govt is also to pay a penalty payment of €1M per day for each day it fails to put an end to #pushbacks.
