'Doctors already earn more than the average UK wage.' Repeat after me: It is not an average job It is not an average job It is not an average job Have people completely lost sight of what being a doctor actually involves?!

Our government dramatically increased the number of med school places to give the illusion of increasing the number of doctors. Graduating more people from med school does increase the number of doctors but it doesn't mean they are working!

When are the general public going to get their heads around this? We absolutely do not have a shortage of doctors. We have a shortage of jobs for doctors.

So a MSRA score of 599 is still not high enough for psychiatry training in Bristol. Actually ridiculous. So angry.

Today I took one of my young patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia out cycling, to let him do something he once loved and benefit from the beautiful spring weather. On days like this I love psychiatry, practicing true holistic medicine.

History in the making - this is the first 'normal' (i.e. not in a clinical trial) script written in the modern era for psychedelic assisted therapy (180mg of MDMA) by Dr Ted Cassidy in Melbourne, Australia. More details here: https://t.co/V0oXEgBL1u

Nothing makes me want to go to work on a Monday like finding out half my ward and most the staff have norovirus.

Patient: Is it ok for me to take valerian for anxiety? Clinician (who doesn't know what valerian is): no, we would rather you use diazepam. So much wrong with the way psychiatry is practiced sometimes.

How to spot a psych trainee: corduroy, doc martens, polo neck jumpers and a love of brown. Possibly round glasses.

I work on an all male psychiatric ward and today 6 of the patients gave a patient who was leaving after a long admission a group hug whilst shouting 'we are all in this together'. It was honestly one of the sweetest things i have witnessed ❤️ we can learn so much from these men!

Health Inequality in the U.K. means that someone in Blackpool will, on average, die 25 yrs earlier than in the more prosperous south, that black women are 9 times more likely to die in child birth, that the poorest are more likely to die on an NHS waiting list etc Levelling Up!
Children have to show they have attempted suicide multiple times before they receive NHS mental health support - shocking evidence to @thetimes Health Commission from @annelongfield yesterday as @eleanorhayward and @GLJourno report

It is that time of year again in the NHS. The heating is on full blast and the windows are wide open. NHS efficiency at its best. And in psychiatry the radiators are on the ceiling...
