This is fundamentally the problem with how C++ is currently taught. The best way to “unlearn” a negative C++ bias, especially for students, is to look at how Modern C++ is actually done. Every year, CppCon has a “Back to Basics” Track, which they also upload to youtube. I

I saw someone reference a 2014 CppCon talk where the presenter complained about MSVC continuously writing back member variables. I checked to see if his example had been fixed ten years later, and sadly the answer is "no" (though GCC and CLANG are fine):

I have created a self-contained version of my @CppCon 2025 keynote demo using @raysan5's excellent #raylib. The only requirement is CMake, all dependencies are automatically fetched. https://t.co/44rllpG5D9 Enjoy! 🚀 #cpp #indiedev #performance #cplusplus #cppcon

"Local ('Arena') Memory Allocators" by John Lakos from CppCon 2017 is one of the finest talks on memory management involving allocators. It's been a while since it showed up, but it's pretty insightful even today! Part 1 https://t.co/QmLmRqYWOS Part 2 https://t.co/1mRSWwuJRR

It's been exactly ten years since this announcement was made. Is there going to be any update where things are going with safety? I haven't heard anything this year.
Herb Sutter says we are close to solving memory safety in C++ without runtime overhead. #CppCon
