The WebMercator projection is, like every other projection a tradeoff between many factors. WebMercator is very suitable for global maps, and especially for digital maps, since the world (well, most of it) can be fit into a single square tile on the root level. 1/

@BarkJack_ @BakkenShale @FlatEarthZone @Google Practically everybody using digital navigation uses a map in the WebMercator projection (same as Google maps), speaking of billions of people. Dont you think it would have become public if those maps did not work?

@Totocapo1975447 @xusTIrettiwt @invertedworld9 ... something you would likely also not be able to see in consumer applications using i.e. the WebMercator (Auxiliary Sphere) projection. It just does not matter for those applications. Everybody expecting more from GIS knows about those limits and uses software more suitable ...
