Interesting thread on the concern that has kept me busy for almost 10 years now as both an academics yet also a former UX professionals’ community leader. #uxrpi #bridge How to bridge research and practice in UX?
There are more people working in digital design (HCI, UX, etc.) as practitioners and academics than ever before. But still a divide exists between the two. How can we fix that? And why bother? (thread) 1/8

You provoked us well! For my small part, here is my working list of ways to disseminate research to practice: 1. Publish in their mags 2. Do workshops 3. Pay translators 4. Collaborate w/ industry 5. Teach students/future practitioners to innovate via research. #UXRPI
Great conversation yesterday at #Decipher2018 about the colliding discourse between ‘cutting-edge’ design practice and ‘serious’ design research @jessicabarness

Every hour I spent on SIGCHI was an hour I did not work or get paid. This further perpetuates the lack of industry folks in SIGCHI. This schism between academia and industry is quite problematic. @susandra #uxrpi
Our blog summary for @sigchi #EquityTalks #4 on Infrastructuring Equity is here: https://t.co/sAGVIpDlGX. Offers an overview of equity challenges/opportunities re: the infrastructures of #SIGCHI (e.g., conferences, volunteering mechanisms, @interactionsMag, etc.).

Bring "more employers into the classroom". Organizing "guest lectures" with UX classes is fun, but a lot of work, in part because of travel. Remote classes could improve #UXRPI, making it easier for folks in industry to connect with students and support faculty.
Do colleges actually provide social connections reliably enough to justify the high price of tuition? Check out @juliaffreeland's latest blog post on how colleges can consider innovative ways to keep students connected to campus during #COVID19. https://t.co/eEdEBKSJsP
