It's #StudentFireSafetyWeek. 🎓🚨 Did you know firefighters have been called out to around 6,000 false alarm incidents at Student Halls of Residence across Scotland since 2021? Firefighters answering a false alarm could be delayed in saving lives in a real fire.

For #StudentFireSafetyWeek, our Chief Fire Officer @CFODaveRussel joined crews for one of our High Rise Days of Action. We visited student high-rise buildings in interim measures to reassure residents about their evacuation strategy and provide advice on cooking and water

Have you a loved one that’s just started at university or college? We know that many people are leaving home for the 1st time, and so may not be aware of the dangers of fire in the home. We are urging them to Think Fire Safe this #StudentFireSafetyWeek-

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility, and it is important that we all work together to stay safe and help prevent fires. Never prop open fire doors and keep fire exits clear. Always follow your universities and accommodation providers’ guidance. #StudentFireSafetyWeek

This #StudentFireSafetyWeek please remember that raising a false alarm by activating a break glass point could put lives at risk. Firefighters react to every alarm call. If they’re answering a false alarm call, they’re not available to deal with a real emergency.

Last week we attended a fire in a student accomodation block, which was caused by incense 😲 It is important that you never leave candles, incense sticks and oil burners unattended, and always make sure they're away from anything that could catch fire. #StudentFireSafetyWeek

Cooking for yourself since moving away from home? 🧑‍🍳 Keep your cool and never leave cooking unattended. If you've been drinking alcohol, it's best to avoid cooking - a moment of distraction can cause a devastating fire 🔥 #StudentFireSafetyWeek

If 3 or more of you are renting/sharing, the landlord must have a licence from the local council for operating a House of Multiple Occupation. If there’s no licence, don’t rent the property. Report the landlord to the council. #StudentFireSafetyWeek

We know keeping doors closed isn’t ideal when you’re trying to make new friends, but think twice before propping open doors🚪 Fire doors are specifically designed to withstand fire for up to 30 minutes & if used properly can save lives #StudentFireSafetyWeek #FireDoorSafetyWeek

This #StudentFireSafetyWeek please remember fire extinguishers should never be ‘played’ with. They are vital, potentially life saving pieces of equipment. Property and lives could be in danger if the extinguishers are not available to use in fully charged, working condition.

Don't be the fresher that starts a fire! 🔥 Cooking is one of our biggest call-outs to student halls...so if you're heading off to university: Never leave cooking unattended ❌ If you have to leave, turn off the heat ⚠️ #StudentFireSafetyWeek

Just because #StudentFireSafetyWeek is coming to an end, doesn’t mean the safety advice should. Remember: ✅Don’t overload sockets ✅Don’t charge devices overnight ✅Never leave cooking unattended ✅ Think when you drink - don’t light candles or use electric heaters
