monthly stack overflow questions over time. 3710 questions last month, just slightly under the 3749 from the first month of it being public. human software engineering had a good run, and now we've come full circle.

This chart shows the total number of Stack Overflow questions asked each month. As you can see, AI summaries in Google and AI coding tools have nearly killed the site. It is only a matter of time before the site shuts down completely. The golden age of independent web is over.

Stack overflow is on it's last breath, but unfortunately they had it coming. They didn't fix harassment of beginners. They didn't update their model when Discord communities started to take off. They didn't protect against AI scraping. They didn't train LLMs on their data.
