A very common small shrub within the #Proteaceae - #Stirlingia latifolia, contains a pretty cool adaptation, Bubble roots! These root nodules are full of starch and help as an energy reserve for resprouting quickly after fire!

While America was resprouting its tumor on Tuesday, Lady Bird was having one removed. Watching her go anywhere, especially up/down stairs, in that gargantuan cone of shame has been hilarious post-op balm. Came out this morning to find Jazz keeping her company.

Potentially perennial: heavily mulched adlay (Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen) is resprouting. It survived at least -7 °C last winter. This is the soft-shelled form of Job’s tears which is used as a grain and a nutritious one at that.

Despite being the fourth-largest wildfire in California history, the Park Fire has resulted in mixed fire severity effects in some areas, similar to what would be expected from a #goodfire . Oaks are resprouting just two months after the fire

Did you know? Trees have an incredible survival strategy called resprouting. Shoots can regrow from stems after disturbances, helping survival and maintaining tree cover in unstable ecosystems. #ClimateActionNow
