🧵 Seeing as it's still #NeolithicNovember (and #StandingStoneSunday) and I've already done a thread of Aberdeenshire stone circles I thought why not move on to the Pictish symbol stones I've seen in the county...

The intricately carved Towie Ball is one of over 400 Neolithic stone balls that have been found, mostly in Aberdeenshire. Their purpose is unknown but one theory is that holding the stone gave the holder permission to speak. #findsfriday #neolithicnovember https://t.co/C8YLg7Nle9

My #NeolithicNovember contribution is my visit to the 5000-year-old Skara Brae. For centuries, Skara Brae was covered by a huge sand dune on the Orkney Islands. It remained hidden there until a huge storm hit the island in 1850, blowing away the sand & exposing the village.

Hopefully this qualifies for #StandingStoneSunday though it’s more of a balancing stone! Pancake Rock on Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire, one of many cup and ring stones scattered across the moor, this has over 50 cup marks. And a wonderful view!😁 #NeolithicNovember
