Two major families of highly available, scalable, (relatively) consistent databases:. 1. Single global transaction ordering, with sharding only in the storage layer (Calvin, FaunaDB, TiDB, FoundationDB, Percolator). 2. Sharded transactions with two-phase commit (Yugabyte,

Pretty cool stuff - CRAQ based FS (ala Delta from Meta), on SSDs + RDMA, FoundationDB as metadata storage. Also, there is no need for prefetching and shuffling during dataloading since you can do fast random access across different nodes.

This is why @rivet_gg runs on FoundationDB at its core – hands down the best open-source distributed KV store out there. No upstream dependencies & no surprises 🚫

👀 Ever wonder how services like #Apple's #CloudKit handle massive datasets on #FoundationDB despite its 5s transaction limits?. 🔬 My new post dives into the FDB Record Layer's continuation mechanism. 🔗

what are some KV stores that are distributed, horizontally scalable, and come with auto-sharding? is FoundationDB the only one?.
