Just in case there are people using CensusMapper or the data API/{cancensus} that have not yet made it over to the other place.

The epicentre of American ethnic identity on the 2021 Census was found in rural southern Alberta. 4% of residents of Census Division 3 (which is 19% Mormon) identified as Americans. Map courtesy of CensusMapper.

In case this blows up, going to do some responsible stats-ing and note the screenshot is absolute number of kids 0-14, which could be misleading depending on tract size/population. Here is % of pop that is kids 0-14. Similar results near Bloor either way.

@robhoadley Iirc, last time I check censusmapper I noticed some really good active travel numbers for the City centre. Would be interesting to see transportation modeling for a second Active Travel Bridge near the Westmoreland Bridge.

@danp128 @LUrbaniste That said, Barrington & surrounding is still sad and empty. There's probably a good reason for it: no one lives there.

@MJBondNashville sure thing!. most of east Nash west of Ellington lost population. east side was mostly flat, save a few districts that added multiple apt buildings. take out growth on gallatin and most would’ve declined. almost all of east lost ~40% of black residents.

The map of Pentecostals in Montreal is intriguing. They're most prominent in Montreal Nord, Rivière-des-Prairies, Lasalle, and Dorval, areas with sizable Black populations. One tract in Lasalle is 11% Pentecostal! .s/o for the map

15-30% seems like the actual renter shares for single detached neighbourhoods based on Census data. Kits, Marpole, Fairview, MP, and GW all get higher renter-shares from non-RS zones. Marpole especially is split between RS areas and the few RM zones.

In Vancouver, Chinatown is a tiny part of the Chinese community. Richmond, Metrotown, South Van (East and West), and UBC all have greater concentrations of native Chinese speakers. But Chinatown is still Chinatown.

@johnjosephjingl Are you sure? In Vancouver certainly the lower density areas are less diverse than higher density areas. Jens has this ethnic diversity mapper; Ottawa core certainly looks more diverse than surrounding areas?

Now that sprawl is off the table in Ontario, Why not try looking at the following neighbourhoods to add new residents? These are maps of renter density. Areas in cream-colour have very few renters that would be displaced if new housing was built.

Doug Ford has taken so many risks when it comes to facilitating sprawl and gone bust on each one. Maybe now he could start taking risks on funding local transit and forcing munis to lift apartment bans near transit?.
