I AM proof that ALS can affect anyone, at any age. This flag at the #ALSinDC event on the National Mall was one of 6,000, representing the 6,000 people diagnosed with ALS each year. Join us as we work toward an #ALSFreeWorld.

I submitted this flag in memory of my Granny, who passed away from ALS at 81. Seeing them honored on the National Mall along with thousands of others as part of the #ALSinDC flag event was profoundly sad, but also brought me hope that someday, we will create an #ALSFreeWorld.

And just like that, the flag display is complete! If you submitted a name for a flag, keep an eye on your email in the next couple of days for a link to the photo album containing all of the flags. Thank you for allowing us to honor you & your loved ones. #ALSinDC #alsfreeworld

FDA approval isn’t the only realm in which the ALS community has made amazing progress since last year’s #ALSinDC flag event. Federal funding for ALS has skyrocketed in the last year, in no small part due to appropriation of funds via ACT for ALS. #ALSFreeWorld

Thank you to the @iamalsorg team for placing this flag in memory of my dad who passed away from ALS last year, less than 3 months after he was diagnosed. The #ALSinDC flag display is a reminder to those who have the power to make change that we can’t afford to wait. #ALSFreeWorld

The ALS community has accomplished so much since last year’s #ALSinDC flag event. In the last year, TWO new ALS treatments have been approved by the FDA – Relyvrio and Qalsody. Read more about Qalsody, granted accelerated approval in April: https://t.co/juTCPpTgVj #ALSFreeWorld

It’s hard to pick the worst part of ALS, but this might be it: there has not yet been a survivor. While some may progress slowly and live for many years after diagnosis, ALS will eventually claim the life of every person diagnosed.#ALSFreeWorld Learn more: https://t.co/OQ7cgMRjJN

If you’ve heard of ALS, you might think it’s pretty rare – that it doesn’t strike many people, or only affects the elderly. Sadly, ALS is not nearly as rare as you might think. And it might even be more common than we know. #ALSFreeWorld Learn more: https://t.co/E0coeSCtC1
