The budget agreement that Biden and McCarthy announced tonight is almost exactly what @billscher has been predicting @monthly since February. McCarthy’s hand was weak, Bill noted, and the White House could cut a deal with very modest cuts. https://t.co/HToC2OLT2i

Contrary to conventional wisdom, the House speaker seems determined to defuse the bomb that can blow up the economy and his party. How should Biden handle it?

Fwiw, the guy sitting next to me recommends Less (Arthur!), and my mom (not on Twitter) weighs in with the Louise Penny series featuring Inspector Gamache, who apparently meets my specifications. Kinda looking for a standalone novel though

Hey Book Nerd Twitter. I’m looking for a book with a main character who is both fundamentally good but also really fun to be around (funny, wry, weird). Recommendations?

Hard to overstate what a radical step this would be, given that many swing-state legislatures are gerrymandered in ways that self-perpetuate GOP control. Would decimate checks and balances.
The Supreme Court has granted cert to Moore v. Harper (the "independent state legislature doctrine" case), meaning it will decide next term whether state legislatures (and not courts) have sole jurisdiction over election law.

Not to freak anyone out, but there are still cases to come, including one that could shake the power of the federal government to its core. It’s called West Virginia v. EPA, and the most extreme ruling would declare that Congress lacks the power to delegate authority /1

What's the name of the particular anxiety of seeing someone typing a response on Slack for much, much longer than the question necessitated, thus implicitly communicating that they must be trying to find the nicest way possible to say you're an idiot?

Hard to believe Tim Horton's is the tip of the spear on app surveillance. Seems more likely we just don't know the extent of what everyone else is doing. Cool cool nothing to see here

NEW: Pelosi announces the minimum salary for House staffers will be set to $45k. (Previously, many were earning mid-30s.) The House will also vote next week to allow staff to unionize. Read my behind-the-scenes feature on the group that made this happen.

Last week, journalist Merrill Goozner was denied entry to the supposedly public meeting where the AMA effectively decides (and ratchets up) health care prices. No other reporters were there. What are they hiding? https://t.co/FXdltrGSS9
