A great day for Liverpool! Delighted for this wonderful human. What a blessing he will continue to be as he shares Christ's saving love with the city he adores.
It is announced today that I am to be the next Rector of Liverpool, moving from the Cathedral, where I've loved singing as Precentor with @LivCathChoir, to @LiverpoolParish this summer, serving the city, its maritime life, by offering the salvation that is in Christ. Pray for us.

Being able to sit at the High Altar and listen to the glorious sound of @LivCathChoir in full force was sublime, directed by the indefatigable Stephen Mannings who has worked incredibly hard. It was like slipping into the back row of heaven.

The People's Service in a packed @LivCathedral on Sunday has remained with me all week and will do for life. The awe, wonder beauty, poetry, music and symbolism was utterly divine. Very proud of my gifted friend @P_G_Anderson for crafting such a masterpiece.

Such a joy to be able to pray God's blessing on some of our local pubs this afternoon, accompanied by their lovely managers, Lou and Dave, and our ordinand @thomashurstuk: all committed to seeing relationships strengthened, loneliness dissipate and hope restored.

I've searched for this icon, or a variant of, for many, many years, and on a recent holiday to mainland Greece scoured many an icon gallery and tourist shop in vain, as I had many times before. 2/3

Years ago, amidst discernment of a call to priesthood, I encountered the icon of The Dormition: of the risen Christ carrying the soul of the infant Mary. It was a formative image which I revisited many times, in sermons, teaching and private devotions. 1/3

Some final wanderings around Athens before returning to the airport, including Socrates' prison. Unfortunately a bout of food poisoning knocked me somewhat off my feet today, but there was no better view to gaze upon when dozing in the sunshine atop the Pynx than the Parthenon.

Considered by the ancient Greeks to be the centre of the world, whilst making the climb to the sacred precinct of Delphi it was impossible not to imagine the vapours rising as many journeyed to consult the oracle- Pythia, the High Priestess of the Temple of Apollo.

En route to Athens, having explored the Byzantine beauty of Thessaloniki. Gazing out at Mount Olympus as the train meanders through the Greek countryside. What a beautiful country this is.
