Our Lady & St.Nicholas is the Anglican parish church of Liverpool - situated at the Pier Head, where a church has stood on the site since the thirteenth century
Just to be clear to the two or three people who follow Church of England politics, Liverpool Parish Church will have no part in blessing 'covenanted friendships'. We will, however, bless your marriage, whether that is to someone of the same or the opposite sex.
Please ignore anything you read in the press about
@churchofengland
& civil partnerships. Instead come to our 'Early Valentine' choral service at 6pm on 2 Feb. We don't care if you are gay, straight, married, single, CP-ed, etc., we'll still offer you a glass of wine afterwards.
A lighted Liver bird keeps watch over our tower tonight- and we’ll continue to pray for and offer practical help to our city as we enter our latest period of lockdown. In the midst of it all- you, we, are not alone.
#Liverpool
In line with the Church of England’s advice we are suspending all public worship until further notice. Church will, however, remain OPEN. For prayer, for food bank donation, for those needing an oasis of calm. Pray for us- we’ll be praying for all of you.
The Bishops have asked that we ring our bells at 6pm- and so Fr Fergus has done so this evening whilst praying the Angelus, that ancient prayer honouring the Incarnation- to remind that we are here for Liverpool in the midst of the pandemic and that God is here with, and for, us.
Delighted to announce that Fergus Butler-Gallie
@_F_B_G_
will be joining
@LiverpoolParish
as Assistant Curate from June 2018. If you don't already know him from Twitter, there is more information about Fergus here:
Following the example of churches across the land, with a very heavy heart, we‘re shutting our church building until further notice.
Until we reopen (which we will) here’s our window with inscription:
‘I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.’
This is profiteering. If you are in Liverpool
@LivDiocese
then we can promise that no church will charge you £700 for a memorial service. Just ring your local priest for a chat.
Can't really believe I'm reading this, but it seems
@CoopFuneralcare
are offering memorial services for families who lost a loved one during lockdown, for £700.
If this is you, please, please get in touch with your parish priest and save yourself £700
We are delighted to announce that the Revd Tabitha Rao will be joining use as Associate Priest. She will be licensed at Evensong on Sunday 6 June. More details here

to mark the unveiling of a stone commemorating Abell, the first recorded black resident of Liverpool and marking over 300 years of a black community in this city.
The Eucharist continues, attended not by the children of men but by myriad saints and angels and gazed upon by Rectors of Liverpool past- testament to the 800 years of Christian worship in this site, and in anticipation of at least 800 more.
Liverpool Parish Church has been at the centre of the city for 800 years and so we’ve seen our fair share of history made- congratulations to
@LFC
for making a bit more for our wonderful city tonight!
Did you know that you can get all the way into
@LiverpoolParish
, sit or kneel, say a prayer and light a candle... all without touching a single door or handle.

"Can there really be no place in the church for a thoughtful, Oxbridge-educated, kindly young man with excellent communications skills and a media profile?" Come and hear

talk about his new book about and at St Nick's. 7pm on Thursday 30th March.
A superb afternoon for us as a 'sending parish' as Louis Johnson was ordained to the diaconate. With our love and good wishes as he serves his curacy in the St Luke in the City Team
@StBridesLpool
Amazing crowds at our Drumhead Service this afternoon with
@BoAtlantic80
and
@RMBandScotland
. We only printed 2000 orders of service, but they ran out half an hour before the service began. This is
#Liverpool
coming together!
Our tenor bell begins to toll- it will do so 75 times this morning to mark the anniversary of VJ Day and the sacrifices made during the war in the East.
The bishops have made themselves gatekeepers for a change in the law. We condemn all who perpetuate institutional and structural homophobia in our society. We recognize loving and faithful commitment between same sex couples to be marriage.
After his Ordination yesterday, it was very good to join Fr Louis Johnson at St Dunstan’s when he celebrated his first Eucharist. The sermon was given by
@crispin_pailing
and we enjoyed cake after the service.
The law restricts whom we can marry, but we invite you to come and talk to us about having your marriage blessed in Church. Come and join us at our Early Valentine service at 6pm on Sunday 5 February to fine out more.
Our pastoral assistant Louis and
@_F_B_G_
kicked off Maundy Thursday with our ecumenical partners and the Roma community on the Smithdown Rd this afternoon.
It was a great joy and privilege for the clergy to lead this morning’s

service in St John’s Gardens, even if these photos (courtesy of the wonderful

Condolences to
@mayor_anderson
and the whole Anderson family. Today we lost a dear friend of the Parish Church, a stalwart of the Merchant Navy community, and a great Liverpool figure. Rest in Peace Bill.
100 years ago today the Unknown Warrior was buried in

. The tomb was the idea of army chaplain Revd David Railton, later Rector of Liverpool

A sobering privilege to stand alongside members of

this evening, and a blessing to have such inspiring faith communities across our great city.
As we mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II, you can sign the condolence book for Liverpool at a number of locations, including
@LiverpoolParish
. We are open every day 9am until 5pm.
Last week, just before
@LCRPride
, our flagpole was vandalised and our Pride Flag stolen. We'll fix the flagpole and get a bigger flag for next year, but just imagine being the perpetrators, carrying all that hate. Pray for individuals who daily are on the receiving end of hate.
The Rector leading morning prayer in an empty still church. “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you” Isaiah 43
Imagine not being able to stockpile. Imagine lock-down when you don't know where tomorrow's food is coming from. Our doors will remain open, so you can drop off food donations for
@MicahLiverpool
Foodbank throughout the week. Don't forget to be kind.
We're on a lot of photos in today's news coverage but when we look out from our building we can see an incredible city with world class heritage. There is a cruise ship in, lots of coaches, and tourist groups everywhere. Come and see why they are all here!

Archbishop Malcolm

stand together- as Archbishop and Bishop have always stood together in this city at moments of crisis- and urge the people of Liverpool to get tested as part of the city wide testing scheme.
We’re delighted to be welcoming historian, author and broadcaster
