Theories and studies of risk preferences typically assume that the subjective value of an outcome is independent of its probability. In this paper (in press at Management Science) @andre_quentin and I questioned the validity of this assumption 1/2.

Economic theory can sometimes be used to explain phenomena that are typically explained with different theories. Some social scientists see intellectual arrogance in economists doing so. That's overstated imho, and ultimately irrelevant for science. Lot to learn from each other.
