Watching the Reason community grow and collaborate helps me to really see a future where remote work is way more common. SF property prices are 5-10x other places, yet I see such high quality contributions/work from every corner of the earth - too much untapped potential.

It’s been 12 years and iOS still needs to stop all system functions and urgently inform me that there’s 20% battery left. #thanks

We used to make fun of web companies for excusing unfinished software by calling it “beta”, but mac & iOS have developed a worryingly similar habit of excuses that I call the “forever transition”: every deficiency is waved away as a “temporary” setback in a larger master plan.

Not sure who decided to put web browsers inside native apps. “I’m glad this website opened up inside this app” said no one ever.

As it stands now, browser extensions are the #1 threat surface to an otherwise highly secure machine. Reduce and prune as much as possible.

Removing JavaScript will make your site faster, but why pick on just one asset type? Delete your CSS. All these custom, non-standard styles are bloating up our sites. Embrace the web's native aesthetic. Browsers have built-in styles—USE THEM.

Web UI development is still crazy hard. React made it much better but with no standard UI toolkit every company is left building their own which is crazy hard and time consuming. And most of them leave super important things out like accessibility and internationalization.

If you write out the basic facts of trees, but framed as technology, it sounds like impossible sci-fi nonsense. Self-replicating, solar-powered machines that synthesize carbon dioxide and rainwater into oxygen and sturdy building materials on a planetary scale.

Imho: In 2018 it's no longer a question if you work remote or not. You already work remote It's the logical evolution of digital work You replied to that email on the commute, you worked from that cafe yesterday, you worked while traveling,… The only question left is how much

Actual dream I had: some piece of tech I was working on had the unintended side effect of opening an interdimensional portal, and the demons were coming through, and I was like “hm I should file a JIRA about this”. The rest of the dream was mostly me struggling with the web UI.
