You're not on Ethereum because you trust the EF, Vitalik, or its users. You’re here because Ethereum eliminates the need for trust. Even if the core devs and validators turn rogue, Ethereum will persist and thrive. To bring Ethereum to the masses, L2s must also eliminate trust.…

Huge misconception. Ethereum is the world's settlement layer not because it has the largest economic security, but because it's the LARGEST VERIFIABLE BLOCKCHAIN with smart contracts. You don't need to trust validators. You can run a full node on a laptop, the cost is very low.…

By today's market prices, Ethereum has $110b staked while Solana stands at $70b staked. Solana's economic security is getting really close to that of Ethereum. Isn't economic security one of the major reasons L2s choose Ethereum as its home?

Great point. Some thoughts: ∎ Users are willing to take risks, but risks affect the calculus. A fully decentralized L2 will have a strong competitive edge. ∎ Stage 1 is slightly better than Stage 0. Stage 2 is a whole new level. ∎ Stage 2 is mission critical for @zksync .
@colludingnode

Manlets arguing that L2s “have no incentive” to build a L1-aligned rollup violates their own narrative: Thesis states that users should prefer a fully decentralized scaling solution so you’re arguing that nobody will build the precise thing that users want, obviously wrong.

💰 Cost: Storing state diffs is way more efficient. It's not just less data (e.g., signatures omitted) but also allows for "batching" multiple changes impacting the same accounts. Efficiency comparison? MASSIVE!

a prediction - Base is making a ton of money from their L2 (2M compared to 1k to Ethereum — and this is only on 15 TPS!) - companies will use these figures to justify launching their own L2s (this is already happening) - however, they will forget that they are not, indeed,…

Did you know 4337 adds ~60,000 gas to every transaction, in addition to the already more expensive AA transactions? Situation is even worst on L2s, where calldata is going to be priced higher.

This will hopefully be a big awakening. Fundamentals matter. Don't get blinded by "success", followers, adoption and TVL again. If there are inherent risks, one day they will materialise. Betting on anything other than ETH rollups for scaling? It's the best time to reconsider.

As a precondition to its mission, @zksync is committed to develop into a 100% permissionless L2. Decentralizing the sequencer is the first step, but we won't stop there. Censorship-resistance needs stronger guarantees than merely relying on the majority of the stakers.

Ethereum's unique proposition in this world is a consensus device that's apolitical, neutral, and universally accessible. People talk about "decentralization" a lot but that's merely a means to this end. Take away said neutrality and it's just another fintech startup.

Fully agree with this definition of zkEVM. It's exactly what describes @zksync v2 — the zkEVM which is live on testnet for >6 months and coming to mainnet in <100 days. Cheers to Polygon for giving up the false EVM-equivalence claims after just 2 days!

What is @0xPolygon zkEVM? 1. Where developers can use their solidity code directly on the chain, "no transpilation step needed" 2. ~100% compatibility with existing Ethereum tooling Rest everything is design detail, don't let people confuse you with minute implementation specs

This will soon translate into EVM-compatible ZK rollups having orders of magnitude cost advantage over the 100% EVM-equivalent ones. The best strategy builders have today is to use Solidity but not to rely on EVM specifics: 1) No inline asm 2) No gas schedule assumptions 1/

An average transaction (a token swap) costs ~800 bytes calldata. Let's say 400 bytes with data compression. 1 MB per block thus means realistically ~220 TPS. Across ALL ROLLUPS, combined. I thought we are getting significantly more scale with EIP4844. Am I missing something?

Back to mini-danksharding now: it's not that "mini", with 16 blobs per block, 4096 points of 32 bytes each, targetting half (EIP1559-like) we have 1 MB of data per 12 seconds! Rollups use 2-10 KB per block currently, that's a 100x capacity difference 🤯

TL;DR of the 🧵: EVM+ > EVM because synchronous interoperability with Rust/Move code is much more powerful than mere Solidity. We agree. This is why @zksync compiles Solidity via LLVM, and it's so easy to add Rust/Move/... frontends. ZK rollups win heads down, once again :)
